I’ve always loved making things with my hands. There’s something about sitting down with a few materials and seeing them slowly come together. You start with an idea, work through the little details, and eventually have something you made yourself. I’ve always enjoyed that process as much as the finished piece. Over the years, I’ve made handmade pieces for others and taught people how to make their own. What I’ve loved most about teaching is seeing someone who has never tried a craft before realise, “Oh, I can do this.” I wanted to make that experience easier for more people to have. That’s where The Karo Project began—with the idea of creating craft kits that give you the materials, guidance, and confidence to simply begin.

The Beginning

Where it started

The first step was to bring the experience of a workshop into a kit someone could enjoy at home. When I teach, I know how much difference a clear explanation can make. A stitch that looks complicated becomes manageable when someone shows you where to begin, what to look for, and how to work through it.

I wanted that same care in the kit. Not just materials and a finished design, but a project that has been thought through from the first step to the last, with guidance you can return to whenever you need it. We’re beginning with embroidery, but Karo has always been about the joy of making, not one particular craft. As we grow, we’ll bring that same attention to other crafts too—so there’s always something new to discover, and a good place to begin.

It's the word you'd hear at home — an encouragement, a small push, said kindly. Go on. Make it. That's the tone we wanted the whole brand to carry: never precious, never intimidating. Just an invitation to begin.

How We Work

Thoughtfully, from start to finish

Every Karo kit begins with a project we’ve made ourselves. We work through the design, choose the materials, and think carefully about how each step will be taught. The details matter—the right tool, a clear instruction, a technique explained in a way that makes sense when you’re trying it for the first time.

We refine those details until the kit feels ready to share. Our kits are packed by hand, in small batches, with the same care that goes into creating them. Because when you open a Karo kit, we want you to feel that everything has been thought through. So you can spend less time figuring out where to begin, and more time enjoying what you’re making.
